If my wife who is an MBA finance from Mumbai, currently working as a corporate banker with one of the top 5 banks in the world comes to the US on an H4 & decides to do a CPA certification, can she work on OPT until the H1B quota opens up next year???

Dude, This is not a project with expected Go-live date... We are investing for ourself. Do you think any law firm or org in this country can do that... If so we will be in different shape.
I support what seahawk mentioned, in last 1 year i requested all my friends, relatives to join or support IV. I see only limited number doing that... but when issues come up they need a solution. But i will keep on trying... Its a sad reality.

We have 1485$ holiday contributions so far and one 50$ contribution on this thread. We need more.

This amendment was PASSED although the CIR bill failed to survive.
In other words, if there had been a bill only to address EB GC reforms, there was a great chance YOU would be able to file for your I-485 even if your PD was not current!
IV in 11/2007:
1) IV has 25000+ members.
2) The EB GC reforms proposed and passed as an amendment in mid-2006 are long overdue!
3) IV has gathered a lot of admiration and attention after the flower campaign/ SJ Rally-> leading to the July VB reversal, and of course the DC rally!
Even if 2500 of them pay $50 a month, IV would have a steady flow of $125000 a month for lobbying efforts.
Just imagine what IV could accomplish in the next few months, if only people realized how important it is for them to sign up for monthly contributions!

Also, one small suggestion, we can just maintain a small excel sheet, to just see who (just the user id and not the actual name) contributed and how much money they contributed just in this campaign. Cos, I hate to say this, I just dont want to be around those who want to have a free ride from all the hard work that IV group is putting in. Please everyone please donate. Anyways, not sure why you are so hung up on the person being illegal so she deserves what she got line. You may have to step back and look at what the larger trend here is. You and I can be the next target (see slippery slope article below).

Somebody in this forum was pointing out how the majority here seem to favor illegal immigrants. Let me point out that Apraio was elected democratically in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. Apparently voters in his county have a different point of view about illegal immigrants and have no problems voting him again repeatedly.

I have a different problem. My spouse's name is correct on passport. but her mother's surname has spelling mistake.All other details are correct. We were not aware of the fact till now. Now we are in the process of applying for I-485. I am confused if this might be a problem for green card processing? If yes, what should I required to do this change in passport? How much time it takes to do this? Please help...

Ok, so if I file the i-140/i-485 now and leave/re-enter the country with a new stamp. Now, if my I-140 is approved after that, and then my i-485 is looked at after that date, will I considered to be in status then, because by the time they are looking at the AOS application, I have already left and returned to the country??
Or should be in status the day the AOS petition is filed and even if i leave/re-enter the country after that, it does not matter?!
It appears that they look at status issues at the time the AOS petition is filed. That's when the "clock" stops. If you leave and re-enter the country it does not retroactively reset the "clock".

You are very good critic, I hope your criticism will lead people into right direction.
ya, lets step-up a poll and have everyone vote, as if this is the US congress. And after voting leave it for someone else to work on this and other "brilliant" idea. There needs to be a reality check. This poll doesn't mean anything unless there are enough people to spend time and energy at every level. But ya, lets setup a poll and have everyone vote, it will give everyone a feel good factor that everyone contributed in the advocacy effort, how? by voting in the pool and not doing anything about how everyone votes.

You are mixing stuff here. The question he/she is asking is why should the small step be your step, considering that 2 yr validity or 5 yr validity does not make too much of a difference (except maybe to CIS income and your wallet) . If the focus is going to be on 485 let it be inclusive of everything relevant to that stage.
