I had this question - how the 50k would be used? If you could post in greater detail perhaps more members would be enlightened to contribute
This got me 3 more reds
If this is the reception a perfectly good point like mine gets, then it certainly doesn't reflect well. To let you know, I have just contributed $100, so reserve your reds for the other guys contributing sweet talks and 0 $$$. And if you have given me red and not contributed, then you are the real A$$#073 here
I request members to quit being childish and engage in sincere discussions

Guys! Need little helping hand here.
Can someone help sending PM to active users to point to this thread. Good amount of users don't visit forum so often but if they get an email, they visit.
I wish this time we can definitely make this happen. I am little disappointed with no response from IV core on this thread so far. We have to make this happen. We will make this happen.

This constant pestering about filling up our profiles totally pisses me off. What exactly is the idea? That a person who is not waiting for a GC can't post in these forums? What if you are not even interested in GC? Or what if you are already a US citizen? Or may be just somebody happily living in Timbuctoo, and visiting these forums just for social networking? Is this site out of bound for them?
Give me a break guys.
Hi uma001

What about the people who got RFEs for 485?
Do you guys think the visa numbers are counted for those people or not:confused::mad::o:(
RFE cases, have very good chance that a visa number is counted towards it. Since, case was opened for processing.

Following up on my previous post. Here is the format for the ad and the affidavit. We went to the DC embassy to get the name changed and they have next day (business days only) passport-by-mail service. I don't think they have same day service.
Actual correct name: <corr_first_name> <corr_last_name>
Current Name on passport: <first_name_pp>
Name in US docs (Visa, SSN, Drivers Lic.):
<first_name_us> FNU _OR_ <first_name_us> <first_name_us>
Format of the ad we placed in Indian newspaper (TOI) and local US newspaper:
I, <first_name_pp> AKA <first_name_us> FNU AKA <first_name_us> <first_name_us> d/o <dads_name> R/o <indian_address/us_address> have changed my name to <corr_first_name> <corr_last_name>.
Format of Affidavit from India (on Rs. 10 Non Judicial Stamp Paper):
AFFIDAVIT
I, <first_name_pp>, D/o <dads_name>, R/o <indian_address>, do hereby take oath and solemnly declare as under:-
1. That I have declared my name as <first_name_us> <first_name_us> earlier.
2. That I have declared my name as <first_name_us> FNU earlier.
3. That now I want to change my name from <first_name_pp> to <corr_first_name> <corr_last_name>.
4. That in future I may be called as <corr_first_name> <corr_last_name> for all purposes
DEPONENT
VERIFICATION:
Verified at <city_name> on this <date> that the contents of the above affidavit are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief.
DEPONENT
The deponent above is the person whose name is being changed. Since my wife was here and the affidavit was to be made in India, my mother-in-law signed on my wifes behalf ...you know what I am saying... (ah! the things you can get done in India)
We found out at the embassy that we could have used our India issued marriage certificate (which had my wifes correct name) and avoid doing all this. Placing the ad, getting the affidavit and posting it to US all took a total of 1 week. We went to the DC embassy early on a Friday and we got the passport with the name changed via mail by Monday.
Another friend of mine got the same thing done via the mail-in service. It took him 2 weeks to get the passport back.
Hope this helps.

Dear friends and fellow members at ImmigrationVoice,
Finally got the email today, Aug 13, 2009, from USCIS indicating that the card production has been ordered for me. No word yet about my wife's GC. Case still pending.
Relevant data for me:
India, EB2 - Priority date April 14, 2004
Texas Service Center.
Short of divulging my social security number, I will be happy to answer any and all questions about my journey so far.
Good luck to all of you.
Best Regards
Fred
NB to admins! If this is NOT the appropriate thread for this info, please let me know. I will remove this post. Right now this thread seems to have a lot of traffic and that's why I posted about my card process email here.

Every week I take time to do some research so that I can be on top of the immigration updates, and why not?
Attorneys have absolutely no clue about the problems and despair we are going thru. They drag heels on simple processing and documentation work, oblivious to the fact that even a single day just adds to our woes.
I need to plan more than 6 months in advance for any major change in my life , be it marriage, having a baby, investing in property - u name it. Every single life event has a big question mark after it. Will I get the visa stamped? Will I be able to extend status? Can I do this, Can I do that? Well I guess life has an immigrant in the US (legal or illegal) has a question mark ?
I am going thru this frustrating non-ending wait to get anywhere close to permanent residency. I had filed for labor - Then came the DOL overhaul, where labor certification decisions are rolled out in the most haphazard, and random fashion one can ever imagine. Unable to wait any longer I even quit the company that filed my LC and joined another company
I am waiting for the new co to file a new LC under PERM - Again I need to wait as LCs can't be filed immediately for new hires - Even finding a co that can provide immigration benefits along with other personal benefits becomes a challenge.
Now I wish my old LC never gets approved - It remains pending for a few more years - at least I can get incremental h1b extensions. (thanks to the AC21 silver lining)
I just have another year left on my H1. I have worked for over 5 years legally, never going out of status, paying all taxes.
My spouse even gave up the idea of working here legally. The long wait for immigration benefits is now a part of my life - All I can do is pray that our senators when going for recess while discussing immigration; get some thought into their heads abt the nightmare that legal immigrants go thru....

Though I am a single, I can understand agony youre going through. Your nanny had committed a crime which is a felony punishable by jail term followed by deportation for life.
Since your baby is a non-immigrant victim of violence that had violated U.S. laws and had occurred in the United States, check with a qualified immigration attorney on weather you qualify for a "U Visa" which provides temporary immigration benefits to victims who help law enforcement.

http://www.immigration.com/newsletter1/uvisareminder.pdf
Dont just walk away from this before even consulting with an attorney.

After getting the form notarized (from a UPS store that has a public notary available), I made a second trip to the consulate and was able to submit the documents! (btw, I was in the queue for 1.5 hours!,,,Those of you going to the NY consulate, make sure u get there when doors open!)
Something new had to pop out.. So, after submission I was told the process could take four weeks because they need some sort of clearance from the consulate that issued the original passport. What sort of clearance.. I have no idea. My passport was issued in Doha. But I have heard from some of my friends who had passports issued in India also facing the same issue.
So those of you planning to travel in the near future and need to go to the consulate for passport reissue, go as early as possible and rid urself of some stress!
I was recently (Sep 2009) at the Indian Consulate in New York for renewing my Passport.
My complete name <A B> is written in the passport on the surname line. The given name field is blank! So it is in the passport as:
surname: <A B>
given name:
I would like my new passport to have it correctly as
surname <B>
given name <A>
But the consulate has refused to do it without a notarized affidavit.
I did take the affidavit to my bank for notarization, but they were obviously clueless about the affidavit form and refused to notarize it.
Here's the link to the form:
http://indiacgny.org/appl_forms/Form15.pdf
1. Where and How do I get such a form notarized?
2. Does anybody have any experience in filling this form. I'm quite confused as to where do I have to sign on this form?
3. If anybody has done this before in the US and got a form notarized for a name split, can you please share how you got it done. Thanks!
Anyhelp in this regard will be really helpful. Thanks!
