If the Repubblican Senators will confirm its vote, the Filibuster will be impossible.
We will have 9 new senators, 7 dem, one Ind, and one repubblican.
Except the senator from Montana, all the news dems are favorable for the CIR., as well as the Indipent one. I don`t know about the new senator from Tennesse.
Also Kyl was talking about the original plan from Mc Cain (who will be a runner, which means that he needs the latino vote)-Kennedy, the one passed from the senate was little bit different. Let`s hope for the duck in anycase....

I had to answer as NO as i live in northeastern PA... the poll should have had an option "I would love to but I live too far away.. but I'll be there in spirit" .. :)

I think everyone is glad that you will be there in California in spirit. Maybe you could help organize another rally in northeastern PA.

I think a better poll option would be to say "I live too far away..but I will organize a rally closer to my residence"

    Thanks @natraj @fatjoe @Vikki @apb - thanks for all suggestions -:)

@ cali - talk to senators's immigration liaison and explain the contradicting response(s) that you are receiving and ask if they could help - at this time lets take a diff approach - let them ping USCIS rather that you..see if that works.

@fat - 2nd SR was for wife and we seriously think that IT did the trick

I am wishing THE BEST for all of you who are waiting...next few days guys - you will get it! 100%

    excpet for Directors and above.

They don't pay taxes, etc etc. It is being mis-utilized by all companies.

I know even Accenture brings people on B1 visa @ 50 dollars a day

This is what I mean by fingerpointing. So why are u so special? Just because u claim to be honest u must not point fingers at others. I am not criticizing u or not arguing, but fingerpointing will not lead to anything constructive. From what I have done so far, I have no clue if I have done something wrong, u r already pointing finger at me.

People in the past and currently are working hard to achieve their goals, fingerpointing and blaming others for the situation will never help.

    What are YOU smoking????

Did I say I am special? Don't put words in my mouth. So if you think that abiding by the law makes one special, then I am guilty as charged :-)

Your "fingerpointing" and "why are you special" comment really cracks me up :D

I agree.. you should be suing the other party in front of you for injuries since they were the ones who stopped and as the person said - offense is the best defense .

If I remember correctly the first car in front of you had already collided with the car number 2 and hence all the accidents. I don't know how they can put you at fault . So let the lawyers handle it and go all the way .

    Best of luck.

I sort of disagree. In accidents like this, most often the person who will be ticketed will be the one driving behind, the reason being that in the eyes of the law the person driving behind should maintain safe distance from the vehicle in front of him even accounting for the fact the guy at front might stop suddenly. This is a lesson for people tail-gaiting too close.

MBA is not about just learning or knowledge. (atleast that's what I saw in the business school). If you really want to know about finance, strategy or economic courses, it is already available in Sloan open courseware website. MBA is about networking and meeting the right people (even if you dont know anything) who can provide leads and opportunities in future. It also helps if it is from a top university with great alumni. I did go to a top 15 school flextime. Did it really help me ? Personally No. But it did provided me with a foot in the door for many opportunities. If you are H1B not looking to get a GC then I would risk it and go for full time. If you have a greencard, then I would risk it again and go for full time. But if you are in the middle of the process and want MBA to help your future growth and if you are planning to do part time, it is a long shot. Most of the part time programs don't really care about their students with respect to career opportunities and they all cater towards full timers. (Those are the statistics that is widely published in the news) It is a cash cow for the university. So the only odd man out is entreprenuership. If you are lucky you will be make it with the first company. But serial entreprenuers will eventually succeed in the long term. My advise is to go for a full time program with a top 15 school, I wish I should have done in top 5. Again there are lucky ones who can make it big even with a lower school, but the odds are slim.

Experience made me a little pessimist

How can we figure out the net assets from a 1120S tax return? I have the copy of company tax return with me and I am "accounting challenged". Can some one please help me figure out the net assets, so that I can answer my ability to pay RFE.

    Thanks

Company tax returns can only show the NET INCOME . You need an Audited Financial Statement prepared by a CPA to show NET ASSETS

We have just been told by reliable sources that the bill is being sent back to the Senate Judiciary committee where Frist and Specter will rework the language of the bill, starting April 24th.

All reasonable amendments will be worked into the bill text itself. Our amendments have a lot of support and the intent is to include them into the text of the bill.

So we need contributions going forward to get our requirements into the base text, and to protect them in conference with the House.

On that, let's shake hands.. and keep up our friendly kidding.. it's a welcome change for our environment here in IV

 02/07/2007: Details of DOL Backlog Cases Processing Statistics
    (http://www.immigration-law.com)

Yesterday, we reported that the Backlog Elimination Centers had completed 67% of cases as of 01/27/2007. According to the "unconfirmed sources", the details appear to be as follows:
Total Number of Cases: over 300,000
Processing status by the Two Backlog Elimination Centers:
    Total 100% Dallas (152,000+) Phily (169,000+)
    Pending 33% 33% 36%
    Completed 67% (1) Certified 33% 33%
    " (2) Closed 21% 20%
    " (3) Withdrawn 11% 08%
    " (4) Denied 01% 02%

The good news is that there were very small number of denials. Bad news is a large number cases did not make it through becuase they were either withdrawn or closed. There are a very small fraction of cases which are not reflected in the table.

Regarding the 1st point, we, or at least I, am already trying to recruit as many people as I can, also posted IV posters in a few places.
Does anyone know how the illegals got word out about their rally across the country, or specifically press coverage about it? If so, we can try to use the same source, not for a rally, but to get IV's name out and talk about our major issues reduced to 2-3 points, so it is not confusing for the public.

Regarding, 2nd point, I think we can all contribute small amounts, say $50-100, but unfortunately most of us are stuck in low paying jobs. If we can get employers involved, that could be a better source of funds. Seriously, I dont expect many employers to contribute, but maybe academic employers who are losing funding because their H1-b employees are not authorized to get it, might be more willing to contribute.

Also, is anyone aware of any Indian American politicans, perhaps local Congressmen, that we can contact? I think I read recently of one in Texas.

Here is a story on a senator from Delaware who seems to be suportive of Indian Americans, although the story is on how he made a blunder talking about them:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/07/07/politics/main1785303.shtml

Also, though you are probably aware of these organizations, maybe we can apporach them to help publicize our cause where it matters:
    1) Indian American Republican Council:
    http://www.iarcnational.org/
    2) Indian American Center for Political Awareness
    http://www.iacfpa.org/
I agree with rheoretro, the first thing that any member feeling helpless here should do is to get more publicity for IV. Talk to people in the same situation
who are suffering because of backlog or cannot file because of retrogression.
Please urge all your friends, influence them to contribute to IV.
Lets continue doing that on a daily basis and then if you feel you can do more, start writing to your local representatives, senators, house members.
I have written atleast 2-3 times to my senator on numerous occasions.
I feel, your words, combined with your thoughts about how this affects you helps a lot in conveying and putting the message across.

I just got sending a email message to my senator here, I am going to follow it up with a letter.
    Email message reads like this:

    Dear Senator Boxer
I have been a legal resident in state of " " for close to 5+/X years and I have been a legal resident in the USA for a total of X years.
I am a legal immigrant, whose application for permanent residency has been pending for the last 3 years.

The U.S. government makes only a certain number of immigrant visas (green cards) available each year and these are allocated among the various immigrant visa categories and countries from which applicants seek to emigrate.

Retrogression: For the past few years, the number of immigrants approved for employment-based immigrant visas has been lower than the number of visas available, resulting in no backlog in visa numbers. Recently, the DOS has seen far more immigrants approved for employment-based immigrant visas and has run out of visa numbers in certain categories, causing a temporary backlog or "retrogression" of visa numbers.

EB-3: This visa category includes employment-based immigrant visas for:

    1) professionals with a bachelor's degree
    2) skilled workers in positions requiring two or more years of experience or training
    3) unskilled workers

Chargeability: Immigrant visa numbers are further apportioned among the various countries from which applicants seek to emigrate. Each country has a limit and each approved applicant is "charged" against his or her country's limit.

Also to complicate the matters, there are those folks that came here illegally that were allowed to change status based on 245(i). Every year in Oct (start of new fiscal year for the govt) 140,000 visas are made avaible for EB3s. These 140,000 visas are divided amongst the different nationalities. Some visas are now going to be eaten up by the surge of 245(i)s from 2001. Irrespective of the the nationality of the 245(i) applicants, they are impacting every category witihn EB3. That is the main reason that almost all EB3 categories have retrogressed and will remain so for a while. Its a grim picture but thats the reality.

We need some intervention from Congress, otherwise people like me will have to wait for years - possibly half a decade or more

I support your opinion that there cannot be any amnesty for illegal immigrants, but there should be emergency relief for legal immigrants stuck in the logjam for years. We ought to make it a little fair for legal, honest and law-abiding legal immigrants.

Please support any bill that gives a temporary relief to legal immigrants (especially Employment based applicants). A temporary increase in the number of Visas allocated to the Employment based categories can substantially alievate some hardship.

    Thanks for your understanding
Future Citizen, proud resident of state of California

    Thanks

There's a book put out by three 'scholars' from the Manhattan Institute with an innocuous title and everything else inside it anything but! The debate is being pushed to dangerous new grounds - while many openly say that all of America's immigration problems began in the 60's, code for colored people allowed in legally, one author said it was 'wrong' to link opening up immigration to all races (by abolishing hemispherical quota) and the civil-rights movement. Ofcourse he didn't say why. They always have to make a big point about Kennedy predicting that immigration wouldn't surge with the 60's act but why the 'surge' is a bad thing in itself is never fully explained - making use of hazy data and cause and effects that are highly diffuse to be really a true 'cause/effect' is the scholarly methodology used. And ofcourse he also argued that previous waves of immigration are different from the current ones but when the argument is brought up that immigrants eventually assimilate suddenly history is no guidance - in other words don’t look at history now! Given the complete lack of spine or commonsense of IV browsers, one can only hope this is just an ugly cycle that plays itself out and decent people recover their sensibility
